Debbie and Gerald Morrison felt the calling of the Lord to start a non-profit work for Rural, TN in 2008. They took a leap of faith by quitting their jobs and began Serenity. Their ministry started in their home taking in homeless women and children.
After a year it became very evident to the Morrisons that living off their savings wasn't going to allow them to do what was on their hearts. Thus, the first Serenity Thrift Store was opened in Dunlap, TN. Not only did it bring in needed funds, it also gave the women somewhere to work.
Later Debbie started working with the court systym and realized there was a need for community classes to give knowledge to those who just needed help to change. For three years Debbie taught Addiction, Anger Management, and Parenting classes. As time went by other non-profits started contacting the Morrisons asking for help to open a store for their works. Sometimes it just wasn't fesible for them to have a store. That weighed heavy on the Morrison's hearts. As Debbie often said "You can want to do good, but it takes money." From this the Morrisons decided to open more stores and give the funds to non-profits in the community of the stores, each store including Dunlap funds 2 local non-profits plus 5% of all sales go to orphans in Israel both Jewish and Arab, a work the Morrison's have done for over 8 years.
In recent years, the Morrison's followed God's leading again to sell the stores and have poured themselves into building Simple Serenity Farm - a retreat to serve those who serve others. The Morrison's have always had great compassion for Couples, Pastors, Leaders, and Missionaries - anyone who gives themselves to God's Kingdom work. Simple Serenity farm exists as a resting place for these couples and other Kingdom workers to find rest and healing if healing is needed. Serenity contines to develop with the Lord's leading and we look forward seeing how God continues to unfold His plans for years to come.
